They should be comfortable working with your venue, photographer, videographer, band, coordinator and other suppliers without making the evening complicated.
2. Someone Who Can Read the Room
This is one of the biggest differences between a good DJ and someone simply pressing play.

The best wedding DJs become part of the team working behind the scenes to make the day run smoothly.
Questions to Ask Your Wedding DJ Before Booking
Before you book, don’t be afraid to ask questions.
Here are a few worth asking:
- How much experience do you have with weddings?
- Do you provide your own professional sound and lighting?
- Do you offer MC services?
- Can we choose songs that are important to us?
- Can we give you a do-not-play list?
- How do you handle requests from guests?
- Can you work alongside a live band?
- What happens if your equipment fails?
- Do you have backup equipment?
- What happens if you’re unable to attend our wedding?
- How far in advance do you plan the music?
- Will we have a chance to discuss the wedding with you beforehand?
- Are you fully insured?
The answers will tell you a lot about the DJ you’re considering.

Price is obviously important when planning a wedding.
But your DJ is one of the suppliers who can have a direct impact on the atmosphere of your entire evening.

Look at the experience, reviews, communication, equipment, backup plans and — perhaps most importantly — how comfortable you feel dealing with them.

Ultimately, choosing your wedding DJ shouldn’t feel complicated.
You should feel that they understand what you’re looking for, have the experience to deal with whatever the evening throws at them and will take care of the music while you enjoy your wedding.
The equipment matters.
